As I write this, hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of bets have been placed on Polymarket, the massive prediction marketplace, regarding how many people will die in the Iran War over the next several weeks and under what circumstances.
I cannot agree more strongly with Sen. Murphy. I have lost friendships with people on corporate boards over arguments on the firing of 10,000 workers because the stock price has slipped. I grew tired of hearing it was their fiduciary responsibility, as if profit is the only measure of being a responsible corporate officer. It appears easy to sit in a corporate board room and fire 10,000 people you have never or will never know. We are in an era of vulture capitalism, but there prediction markets are insidious and MUST be regulated. Which will never happen as long as the billionaire class controls out nation.

I’ve written a letter to governor Polis about online gambling and father’s thousands of dollars in arrears on child support. My boys father bets on about everything and is over $17,000 behind on child support. Taxes are collected in real time, kids wait. As law makers, why aren’t we working on things like that? Thank you for highlighting this plague that’s been unleashed.
