Why isn’t congress convening and taking the necessary action to remove Trump??????

Nora M's avatar

They have other priorities, like visiting Disney World and insider trading. In case you missed it, the Republicans - like their leader - just don’t give a damn about the American people. If they did, they would not have cut funding for Medicaid, SNAP, the ACA or all the other programs that benefit people instead of billionaires.

Susan Parker's avatar

I agree. It is going to take more than a substack post to change things.

Krikit's Songs's avatar

True. Yet all the GOP members have gone home. They are in the majority. Only they have the authority to recall the members. It seems the last thing they want to do is stop this insanity. Many aren't meeting with constituents at all. They are hiding. I cannot for the life of me understand what they are thinking.

George in Atlanta's avatar

"It seems the last thing they want to do is stop this insanity."

Exactly right. They want this to go on and on. Some believe in brutalizing brown people way over there because that's what their constituents want. Some want constant war because that's what their Lord God Trump wants, and they are mere vassals to his will. Some are just frightened little rabbits who found themselves somewhere they couldn't believe they'd be, elevated by the GOP's consistent rewarding of stupidity and blind loyalty.

I agree with those before me here. Thinking is not part of what they do, they're flatworms seeking light and fleeing cold.

Robot Bender's avatar

Some of them want Armageddon and are actively trying to set it off.

Winston Smith London Oceania's avatar

That's the problem, they're not thinking.

Amie B's avatar

But some of them are ‘drinking’ as in Lindsey Graham 🥃

It’s as if they are giving up and self destructing when you can’t defend him who can’t be defended.

David J. Sharp's avatar

It’s all about white supremacy … with Republican hands on the reins (or whip handle).

Sandy Salmons's avatar

Because the Republicans are Cowards and will not vote to unseat this Treasonous Bigot from his cushy post!

Nature X's avatar

Because Nazi Elon Musk and the convicted felon threatened them badly, ans they care only for career preservation. They don't move an inch to do anything about the convicted felon. Pay attention they are not worried one bit about the midterms.

Lisa Perry-Wood's avatar

The 25th amendment requires his CABINET to vote to remove him, not Congress. The latter can impeach, try, convict and remove a president. With both the cabinet and Congress stacked with his sycophants, there’s not much hope of either of these things happening anytime soon.

Jeff Ashlock's avatar

We must vote for Democrats in the midterms in such large numbers that trump, et al can’t scream the election was stolen or rigged.

Elizabeth Child's avatar

Call your reps! Every day!

Scott Shershow's avatar

You know the answer. The Republicans.

Ruben Bix's avatar

We need a third party, in any case more than two, to diminish the likelihood of one party dominating government. Even if we get rid of him, there are lots more of his ilk waiting in the wings. Trump’s crimes are also the Republican Party’s crimes.

Krikit's Songs's avatar

Let's have a third party AFTER we get rid of him. I don't want to see him win bcz the anti-T vote got split.

My congressman (a dem) says there are eleven caucuses within the democratic party. They are pretty much all opposed to T. There's only one effective caucus in the republican party, and they all appear to worship him.

What we might really benefit from is a parliamentarian system and we might make coalitions, but that's not what we have.

Churchill chester's avatar

Cabinet fears retribution if 25th Amendment is invoked. Mad man may come back and make their lives hell.

Ann Sharon's avatar

Can we spell “chikin” and selfish?

Impeachment begins in the House with charges. It takes a simple majority. Mike Johnson does not approve.

If charged, impeachment goes to the Senate where it takes a 2/3 majority. Leader Thune is in charge of the Senate.

As Americans, we have never lived in scarier times. They are a bunch of lunatics running this country into the ground. The lack of morality in Trump and anger in Hegseth should be alarming to all Americans, but it’s not. I don’t understand. God help us to survive this.

Martha Kenne's avatar

Yep! And lack of morality in Miller, et.al.

Maryjane Peluso's avatar

Agreed totally. Apparently the MAGA base has intimidated GOP in Congress to the point where nobody has the guts to call for Trump’s removal.

Chris Murphy is a courageous senator standing for what’s right.

Lucy Guerlac's avatar

Unlike my lily livered Indiana Senator, Todd Young, one of the succumber senators.

Robot Bender's avatar

Mine is Coward Hawley.

Batya Lee's avatar

It’s true that during my 67 years we haven’t had a lot of scary times. But there have been a few. The cold war with the USSR, the cuban missile crisis, on 9/11 and after that. But twumpus is throwing gas on the fires in Iran instead of putting them out. That is definitely scary bc it’s going to radicalize the entire ME and plenty of people here already against us. The chaos he creates is very very unsettling.

Dee McCarthy's avatar

So…25th Amendment the entire administration. Please.

Diane Hayward's avatar

Totally, they are all corrupt.

BAHumbug's avatar

I am as angry as it gets ... madman....he has frontal lobe dementia and has no ability to discern right from wrong....why isn't our Congress doing its job? why can't he be sued for mouthing war crimes. Do something someone please

Winston Smith London Oceania's avatar

While the dementia has exacerbated it, he's never been able to discern right from wrong. That's who he is. That's who he's always been. That's who he'll always be.

Paco Fitchett's avatar

Oh he knows the difference between right and wrong, he just chooses the wrong path because it’s profitable to him and his friends. He has always been on the side that enriches himself and his family. By far the most corrupt president in history. Bill Fitchett

Marge Wherley's avatar

Some people say that dementia exacerbates who you really are. Among friends and family members I have known with dementia, that proved true. In Trump’s case, doubly so.

Jan M. Flynn's avatar

I've called all three of my congressional reps to insist that they call for invoking the 25th Amendment. All of them (Crapo, Risch, Simpson) have behaved as dependable toadies to the Trump administration, but I hold out hope that Trump may have now crossed a line even they can't normalize.

Bruce W.'s avatar

Senator, you are absolutely correct. He sounds like he is threatening a nuclear strike. He is immoral and unhinged: literally crazy. We need him out NOW.

elliottobermanprofile's avatar

We need you as leader of the senate, please remove Schumer!

Pamela Hannula's avatar

I’m really puzzled why Republicans aren’t taking this more seriously. Are they really that afraid of his supporters? Or are they cashing in somehow?

Nature X's avatar

Perhaps the midterms are already fixed in their favor, thanks to Nazi Elon Musk. Think about it. Do you see any Republicans in Congress worry about the midterms? That's why they do nothing.

Winston Smith London Oceania's avatar

Oh they're worried alright - privately. Publicly they continue to wear the same plastic grins that they always have.

Ann Sharon's avatar

They are not doing ‘nothing’. They are trying to mess with elections & the Dems are trying to stop them. They wont rule out putting armed ICE agents at polling stations. (It is against the law to have armed forces, public or private at polling places unless we are under attack by a foreign power.)

Yes, they know. The RNC chair announced it to the world last December. “ … a “looming disaster.” “The chances are Republicans will go down and will go down hard,” Gruters said.

18 U.S. Code § 592 - Troops at polls

U.S. Code

Whoever, being an officer of the Army or Navy, or other person in the civil, military, or naval service of the United States, orders, brings, keeps, or has under his authority or control any troops or armed men at any place where a general or special election is held, unless such force be necessary to repel armed enemies of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both; and be disqualified from holding any office of honor, profit, or trust under the United States.

JennieGeo's avatar

Or just start filing impeachment articles now. Because his cabinet is all for this. They paid him to choose them.

Philip Miller's avatar

Thank you for your advocacy to invoke the 25th amendment. Philip Miller

Pamela Hamilton's avatar

When our government becomes a group of international criminals, how does The Hague prosecute them? And every military man who follows illegal orders? What is the mechanism?

Senator, I have great admiration for your steadfast opposition to this mad king. How may I volunteer to help your office?

Susan Conard's avatar

It is clearer every day that for the future of our country, our alliances, and the world, Trump must be removed from office. He has no ethics, he has no compunctions about committing war crimes. He is a vile person, and a bully. He should never be in a position of power. Congress must act.

Charlene Drew Jarvis's avatar

I live in Washington DC. There is no one in the Senate that represents citizens of Washington DC. That is a blasphemy!

But if you live in a state where you have two senators, no excuse for you're not DEMANDING that those Senators invoke the 25th amendment! You have the power of the vote. USE IT! CALL YOUR SENATOR.

Alison M's avatar

Unfortunately, the senators that need to take action won’t. Therefore, calling them is fruitless. Sad, but true. They’re all a bunch of cowards.

Laura Crosby's avatar

Chris is a hero for our times. Why don’t more politicians write and speak up loudly for the same principles. We are frogs in bouling water. Thank you, Chris.

Miriam Maxwell's avatar

But he and his fellow progressive democrats need to immediately file Articles of Impeachment. Lord knows, there are hundreds and maybe thousands of examples of why he should be impeached - culminating in that last horrific tweet about obliterating the Iranian people.

Suzanne Cully's avatar

My advice to you is to learn about congress, majority/minority and how that impacts both parties. Because impeachment only happens for the parties in power and even then would make no difference to trump.

Ann Sharon's avatar

Unless the House impeached him & the Senate convicted him. Which I agree is a stretch with a GOP controlled Senate.

karemm's avatar

I called all of my reps this morning. Van Hollen, Alsobrooks, and Elfreth. I told them that if they want money, I must see their faces on TV calling for Trumps removal. I'm sick of hearing, "but we're in the minority, there's nothing we can do." Dems should be holding daily press conferences!

Carolina's avatar

Why can’t this unhinged man be stopped

Enough talking He has no regard for human life or the environment or an ancient civilization. Too much talk time for action
