I don’t normally read the comments on my social media feeds, but I couldn’t help but notice that my bill to create a new federal office to combat the growing American epidemic of loneliness had attracted some pretty strong reactions from parts of the right wing.
Having worked as a Social Worker for over 25 years (trained at UConn School of Social Work btw!), I couldn’t agree more with your assessment of the loneliness epidemic in this country, and I applaud your out-of-the-box thinking to say that government may have a role in helping to make this better! I definitely think you nailed it on how the policies you described have driven communities apart. Thanks so much for your thoughtful leadership in this area!
There is very definitely a spiritual crisis in our country and I do accept that the government should fill in a few gaps that exist in our policies. These gaps are numerous, no doubt. This effort needs to be focused on bottom-up community planning and to put it plain and simple, a spiritual revival.
We have become a very atomistic society, and yet I think most people actually yearn to be a part of something larger and special, especially if it requires sacrifice for that larger group's oriented goal. Examples include the extreme of going to war, to helping neighbors during a crisis, to the more trivial feeling good being a part of a fan group for a particular sports-team. We need to find non-violent means for the public to want to participate in community and unity activities having grander visions helping the whole. JFK was wise when he said, "Ask not what your country can do for you...".
I am back. Thinking about statistical mathematics and scatterplot cartographical data. Jeffersonian Bicameralism exploded in 1861 and in 1862 there was the Morrill Land Grant University Act. Oh, and please consider FCC.gov regulations. I was hoping that the new Prosser Library in Bloomfield could have a VHF Handheld and Mobile "Land Grant University Discussion" with a Kenwood Nexedge base station broadcast on FM. I think I mentioned Scantron Data Collection, statistical assesmentscof such, and ArcGIS.com cartography. I have wondered what my cell phone MHz and cellular encription are and if the device will support HF/VHF/UHF/AM/FM...
Senator, I very much appreciate your work, and your words. Please consider formatting your writing with a thesis statement and an abstract... unless people would be frightened by the format. In my career, I have found certain scientific fonts and type settings highly guarded. Your ideas and your contributions to our nation deserve greater presentation. And, on that note... Once, while feeling lost and abandoned and completing yet another test form, c, c, c... I by chance noticed the maker of the bubble dot form was the Scantron corporation. Correspondingly, here in Bloomfield I was once in possession of a lifetime of a pastor's scripted records of this town. Scantron handwriting verification, and other forms of data collection, as well as machines the likes of New England Mailing Systems here in Connecticut... and with the logistics of our USPS... is a world of listening to and empathizing with the people of Connecticut. So, know that I hear you saying you care.
I don't know if this would be legal on the federal level, but I think an outright ban on R1 zoning would help a lot. At the very least, we shouldn't have entire R1 neighborhoods.
Endorse Holy Matrimony
